On Thursday night, October 24, 2024, St. Margaret of Scotland School presented a 60-minute discussion co-sponsored by the SMOS PTA and Gun Sense: For the Common Good, hosted as part of the SMOS Gun Sense team’s four-part series called “From Outrage To Action”. For Part IV, St. Margaret of Scotland joined with Be SMART For Kids and Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital to present a conversation on Kids, Guns, & Safety.

Congratulations to the SMOS Speech Team for their work in preparing and performing in the first Bellarmine Speech League Tournament of the 2024-2025 academic year! The team performed with excellence this weekend and we are pleased to share their results and gratitude for the support of our SMOS community.

St. Margaret of Scotland School is partnering with Be SMART For Kids to bring gun safety to our families. It is our goal to make SMOS the first “Be SMART School” in the St. Louis area.

All SMOS school parents, parishioners, and extended family are invited and strongly encouraged to attend a special 60-minute presentation regarding the necessary steps to take to ensure your children’s safety around gun.

Calling all artists in grades 3-8, please take some time to create this year’s cover for the school yearbook. All entries should be submitted to the school office by Friday, Nov. 8. The entire school will vote on the finalists the following week. 

On Monday we will be sending home our scores from the NWEA testing period in September.  As you know, our second through eighth-grade students participated in our first round of NWEA testing in September. St. Margaret of Scotland students 2-8 are in the 78% in math, 80% in reading, and 76% in Language Usage. These scores are truly exceptional in regular circumstances without factoring in it was our student’s first time taking the test.

The SMOS PTA Inclusion & Diversity Committee will once again celebrate the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holiday at St. Margaret’s School with an ofrenda (or altar) in the cafeteria starting November 4. All are encouraged to sign-up to participate!

Maggie is sending in a column this week on her way to Scotland to fulfill every actor’s dream (and every audience’s nightmare) – a one-woman show! And while her work as a thespian may not make you cry, she gives it her all to put the “tear” into volunt-teer for this post. But have no fear, she will tear herself away to get back in time for Walk-A-Thon Saturday!

Support the SMOS Boy Scouts’ annual fundraiser with your purchase of fresh live Christmas wreaths and greenery.  Varieties include fabric bow, natural pine cones, golden ornaments, and decorative red berries.  

This week, Maggie trades her gossip girl hat for that of the town crier to help out a mother who is almost in tears over the prospect of one more day off of school. But have no fear – Maggie channels this panicked parent off the cliff, and onto the (Walk-A-Thon) path of tranquility with her big announcement regarding a special party for the whole school – if the fundraising goal is met this year!
