SMOS @ Shaw Art Fair 2024

Be sure to stop by the Shaw Art Fair the weekend of October 5-6 – where a selection of St. Margaret’s students will have their art on display at the Fair. The Shaw Art Fair runs both Saturday from 9am-5pm, and Sunday from 10am-5pm along Flora Place & Tower Grove Avenue, just east of the Missouri Botanical Garden.. $8 weekend passes. $10 at-the-gate. Valid both days. Children age 14 & under free with adult. At-the-gate ticket $1 off with canned food donation. The SMOS exhibition is part of The Schools Exhibit, Art Activity and Demonstration Area, which is located west of Klemm at booth numbers 49 & 78 – center of 4200 block of Flora Place.

Every year, St. Margaret’s students have an opportunity to participate in an art project run by SMOS Art Teacher, Sara Loser, through a program called Square One Art. For this year’s project, the students did an amazing job! Once their projects were completed, a selection committee comprised of Fr. John and the parish staff, reviewed all of the artwork and selected three pieces of art from each classroom – for a total of 63 portraits which will hang at the Shaw Art Fair.

The parish staff selection committee carefully poured over every entry to make their choices for this year’s lucky artists chosen to have their work on display at the Shaw Art Fair.

2nd – 8th graders were given personal freedom to express themselves artistically. They did a quick study of artists Romero Britto and Peter Max for color and pattern inspiration, but students truly stretched themselves and made their very own unique masterpieces.

Pre-K art was inspired by peacocks! They learned about peacocks, did a directed drawing of a peacock, and then colored them using the wax-resist watercolor technique. The results were stunning. Some were recognizable and others were beautifully abstracted.

Kindergarten continued the directed drawing of an owl – a tradition for many years in the kindergarten classroom. The results were amazing as usual. Each owl had it’s own unique flare.

And first grade put their heART into their art! They made hearts and divided them into sections and chose the patterns and colors to fill their hearts with. Don’t be surprised if your heart skips a beat when you see them for yourself!

So without further ado… here are the names of students whose art has been chosen for display at the Shaw Art Fair this year. Congratulations!!
