Principal’s Message 02-06-25

St. Margaret of Scotland Families:

Recently, many SMOS community members have reached out regarding the school’s response to possible contact with immigration agencies. Know that we have received guidance from the Archdiocese legal counsel and are in the process of creating a plan in the very small chance that this becomes an issue for St. Margaret’s.  We are aware of our rights as a private Catholic institution.  Know that our priority will always be our students.

Many in the community have also inquired how they can become involved with the immigration ministry.  St. Margaret of Scotland has robust programs based on Catholic Social Teaching.  There is more information about those Living Justice Ministries’ efforts in the Parish portion of this week’s newsletter

Finally, I have received some questions on the response of the Catholic Church to current immigration policies.  The United States Council of Catholic Bishops has recently released several statements which I believe clearly lay out the Catholic response to issues of migration, refugees, and immigration.  I encourage you to read these documents.

God Bless,

Patrick Holley
