Dear Maggie – October 24, 2024

Dear Dragonites —

I know what you’re going to say already… ”You haven’t been answering our questions lately!”. Yes, you’re right but I am a busy woman and while I do love reading your emails and answering your questions, sometimes you guys don’t give me much to work with.  Case in point, last week my inbox was full of questions like “Do you know where little Jimmy’s lunch box is?” and “Have you watched the documentary on MAXX called ‘Chimp Crazy’?” (the answer to that is YES, I could write a million columns on that insanity! Also, if you guys keep this up, they’re going to change the phrase from Florida man… to Missouri man…🙄)  Also, “Can you identify this rash?” 🤢 So, sometimes I’ve got to go rogue… but not this week! My inbox was FULL of emails and you all had the same question… ”Will there be a HalloweenFest this year, what is it and when will it happen?”  I really wonder about you guys sometimes – it feels like you’re all new around here. And no, none of those emails were from new families!  Do I really need to remind y’all to scroll up and actually read the newsletter EVERY. SINGLE. WEEK??? You think I’m dramatic when I say these things, but just last Friday I was talking to a parent who didn’t know what the Walk-A-Thon was OR that it was the very next day! Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox.  #AxeToGrind

I was actually just talking to Bernie about how much I love this time of year. My favorite holiday is next week and I can’t wait to celebrate with all my friends.  I just love how all of the spirits are out for a good time!  No… I’m not talking about Halloween, I’m talking about All Saints Day! (Hello! I’m a saint, remember… it’s kinda my thing!)  It’s a day when all of us honored dead get together and reminisce about the good old days. This year I am going to take some of the younger kids out for drinks.  JPII is always down for a good time, and I’ve been trying to convince Mother Teresa to retire but that girl is a workhorse!  She is still working her magic even in the afterlife. I enjoy giving her the push she needs to take a break every once in a while. Plus, Halloween was never really my thing.  Back in my day, between the many plagues and all the beheadings, it was kind of always Halloween. #NoThankYou

For any of you history nerds out there 🤓, keep your eye out for Fr. John’s message in the bulletin this Sunday, he’s giving a riveting and thorough history of Halloween and its roots in our Catholic faith.

Ok for anyone who’s still with me hoping I might actually answer your question here it goes: Yes, there will be a HalloweenFest this year, it’s still put on by the Student Council and it will happen next Tuesday. Classes are assigned a time slot. Like I said earlier, scroll back up, all the deets are up there. Or you could read my column from last year too. It’s a classic if I do say so myself.

Alright all you little Ghouls and Guys, I hope you have a Spooktacular holiday and I’ll see you on the flipside. There won’t be a column next week, I’ll be at the Taylor Swift concert so as the kids say “I’m slamming my laptop shut until November!”… or something like that, I can’t keep up with all this skibbity stuff.
