Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion provides ongoing formation programs in our mission values for all students, faculty, and staff, and families at St. Margaret of Scotland School.

St. Margaret of Scotland has long valued diversity and is continually working to improve our community’s individual and collective efforts. This call to action comes from our mission, from our tradition begun in earnest under former principal Sister John Mandeville’s leadership, and in conjunction with the U.S. bishops’ renewed call to identify racism as a sin in need of healing.

St. Margaret’s has a Coordinator of Inclusion, Diversity, & Equity (CIDE) on staff, Mr. Corey Shorter, who manages and plans diversity efforts at the school.  He runs the Diversity Council for students, and works very closely with the PTA’s Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Committee.

The Student Diversity Council

At SMOS, our students recognize the significance of diversity and inclusion.  In the fall of 2023, we formed the Student Diversity Council.  The members of this council were enthusiastic and thrilled to have the chance to represent their peers.  The council plays an active role in organizing school-wide events and participates in enjoyable activities with the younger grades.

No Place for Hate

St. Margaret of Scotland is recognized as a No Place for Hate school. This initiative is a self-guided program that empowers all stakeholders to take initiative in enhancing and sustaining a positive school environment where every student can flourish.
