Racial Equity

While it can feel overwhelming to know how to respond, there are tangible, practical ways to come alongside our immigrant and refugee neighbors.

The SMOS Racial Equity Team invites the parish to deepen its commitment to anti-racism by learning local history—especially the destruction of the Mill Creek community—and reflecting on how faith calls us to confront past and present systems that marginalize our neighbors.

Join the SMOS Racial Equity Team on February 22, 2026 @ 2:00 PM  for a visit to the Missouri History Museum to explore the new Mill Creek exhibit.

Join the SMOS PTA Inclusion & Diversity Committee on Friday, September 19 at 8:00am in the Teacher’s Lounge for “Brewing Connections” – a chance to talk all things I&D with parents, staff, and parishioners.

There are a number of events and activities coming up in the next few months as we head into the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and through Black History Month that the SMOS Racial Equity team highlights in this latest update. Please join members of this ministry, part of the Living Justice Ministries at St. Margaret of Scotland, as they participate in these fantastic opportunities (including a parish reading group, and events at Wash U. and in the Archdiocese) available to all around the City of St. Louis.

A new documentary, ‘A Place at the Table: African Americans on the Path to Sainthood’, which highlights the extraordinary lives of six Black Catholic individuals, will be screened on November 4 at 5:30PM in the St. Margaret of Scotland parish hall. Pizza, salad, drinks, and post-film conversation will be provided.
