Black History Month – Purpose Fulfilled

~ Some of the most important questions we can ask ourselves are, “Why were we created?”, “What is our purpose?”, and, “How will my purpose impact others?” During the 1950s and 60s, we recognize that time frame as the civil rights era. During that time, our country was plagued with a bunch of things such as division, hate, and racism, but amid that chaos, a lot of heroic people found their purpose.
For example:
- Martin Luther King discovered his purpose through sharing his dream;
- Rosa Parks discovered her purpose by taking a seat;
- Malcolm X discovered his purpose by fighting and teaching others to fight for what they believe in;
- Maya Angelo discovered her purpose in writing and poetry.
Each of these important individuals paved the way for someone else. They each recognized a universal problem and made a personal choice to challenge an unfair system.
Each of these important people discovered their purpose amid adversity. The amazing part about God is that he will use an unfortunate situation and turn it around for our good. Scripture tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. So the scripture tells us that God already has a list of good things planned for us to do, all we have to do is trust God and fulfill the purpose he has laid out for our lives.
Throughout the year, we present an article in the bulletin each week on a variety of topics, written by a member of our Parish staff or ministries on a rotating basis.
