USDA Truck Visits SMOS

What IS that?!  Is that a Bouncy House?!

As I bounced over to the Purcell Hall drive on Tuesday, I quickly saw a group of students engaged in listening to some type of presentation!  What was going on?

It was the USDA Soil Scientists!  They rolled up in their cool Mobile Lab and hung out with us in the Purcell Hall driveway for a couple of hours.  This was quite a Soil Event for students and teachers.  These scientists brought hands-on visuals for us to learn the importance of good soil.

Students looked at various plants’ root systems, various soil compositions and  learned different ways to protect the earth’s soil from erosion.  We even got to see how quickly water can affect land that is not protected.  With the fragility of our earth’s atmosphere, the Scientists emphasized the importance of keeping things as natural as possible to protect our planet from the negative effects of greenhouse gases.

This week, SMOS learned how to be good stewards of the earth God gave us.  Now, can someone please help me with keeping my plants alive?  😊

Each week, we will be highlighting the amazing and wonderful things that are happening in our classrooms and grade levels at St. Margaret of Scotland School. We are very proud of the work our teachers do with our students and are amazed by what happens at SMOS. Our goal is to share more about the hidden gem that is St. Margaret’s.
