Msgr. Turek’s personal Gmail account has been hacked, and several people in our parish and others around St. Louis have reported receiving a Punchbowl invitation from him. This is a phishing scam. DO NOT CLICK ON THE INVITE to open the message. Just delete the email.
Sometimes folks with bad intentions try to take advantage of people’s trust in their clergy by sending fake emails or texts with a vague request to send money or gift cards or invites. Unfortunately, this is a common internet scam that perpetuates no matter how often passwords are changed. Sometimes it’s as easy as checking to see if the email is from a valid address (although they are getting more sophisticated), but if you are ever in doubt about a text or email from someone claiming to be any of the priests, a parish staff member, or a parish volunteer, call the parish office to see if it’s legitimate. Be aware and be careful!
